Over and Out Part 1 - A Halloweeny Blog Post :)

Hi! Happy Halloween! First of all, I hope everyone had a great time tonight, whether you're trick-or-treating or not :P My town is pretty mucked up, and we celebrate Halloween on the last Friday of October, so for me, this post is a bit late! My Halloween was especially fun - a film and a Chinese with my mum :D So, what are you doing tonight?

Secondly, I promised last time that I would have a story for you guys and well, I kept my promise. This story is called Over and Out (I think...I've not really decided!) and it was meant to be 1000 words long it actually comes in at about 2300! So, to lighten my poor readers load and stop your eyes hurting, I've split it up into two segments :) The end part will come out tomorrow, so keep watching this blog! The story was meant to be kinda Halloween themed but it didn't quite end up like that...still I hope you enjoy it! Leave your thoughts in the comments!
P.S. The LOG BOOK entry's do have a cool page thing round them but it wouldn't copy onto the blog :(

Over and Out

LOG BOOK
Date: 31/10/16              Author: Alex R.

It’s been 2 months and 4 days since the virus started spreading and infecting people.  You would think the creatures’ numbers would be dwindling, but they’re not. If anything they’re growing. Groups like us are slowly being picked off and infected, turning grey and dead. It’s horrible watching the transform – first their hair falls out and then their eyes fill with blood, and then slowly, their brains fizzle out, leaving shells, living on instinct, killing anything that comes near.  But of course, the victims don’t die...they just join the army waiting for us outside.
It was Marcy on Tuesday. They caught her as she was coming back from the supermarket. We had sent her out to get more food and water. It seemed like a good plan at the time – she was a sprinter, with long legs made for running. But laden down with milk and bread and tins, she didn’t stand a chance.  Anyway, that’s us down to four.  Me, Bruce, Tim and Lionel. It feels wierd weird to be the only girl, especially when I have to change or wash or go to the toilet. But that doesn’t matter, not in the grand scheme of things...
Everyone’s feeling uneasy tonight. Even Bruce, who wasn’t nervous when that creature broke down the door and headed for Tim. He just bashed it on the head and dragged him outside. Cool as a cucumber. He’s just sitting on the chair now, his eyes closed and his hands on his lap like he’s praying. Tim and Lionel are talking, but their conversation is stilted and awkward pauses fill the air between them. Even my hands are shaking as I write this. The reason we’re all so nervous is because tonight is Halloween. The scariest, spookiest night of the year. A time when the dark hides the worst creatures of the night, a time when ghost and witches rule the Earth. A time when –
Oh wait, I’ve got to go. Lionel is tapping me on the shoulder.
Over and Out.

Alex sat the pen down on table and closed the book. It was rough and scratched with coarse pages. All the normal paper they could find was burned – this book was only spared because of its leather cover. Alex stroked it and then turned round. Lionel stood behind her. When they had first met, Bruce and Alex had joked about his name, and how it suited him. He was a tall man, with bushy brown hair, lined with golden threads. He looked like a lion. He was useful for decision making and fighting but he ran like a wounded boar.
“Yes?”

Lionel wrung his hands. “There are noises outside.” Alex rolled her eyes. There were always noises outside.

"It’s probably nothing,” she assured. “But keep an eye on the door and ready the weapons just in case.” Lionel nodded and hurried the length of the warehouse to Tim. The warehouse was big but comfortable. A fire blazed orange and red at one end, while the wind whooshed under the door at the other. From the line of black seeping into the room, Alex guessed it was about 7:00pm. The time she always went out guising. Alex shook her head and walked towards Lionel and Tim.

“Is everyone ok?” she asked. Sometime in the last couple of weeks, she had been made leader. She didn’t mind – she quite enjoyed it actually.

“Yeah, I think so.” Bruce pushed his chair out and came to join the group. His voice was rough and low. “But there are some weird noises outside. I mean, really weird.”

Alex sighed inwardly and said, “Fine. Everyone shut up, so I can listen for a moment.”

The room went silent. For a moment the only sound was the wind and the crackle of burning paper. Clunk. Alex froze. There was something – someone- banging up against the side of the warehouse’s metal doors. Clunk. Clunk. Alex leapt into action.

“Lionel, grab the guns and load them. Bruce, close the shutters.  And Tim, wait by the door. You all know the drill.”

The men jumped to attention and began doing their various tasks. Bruce ran to the windows and yanked them sharply downwards, while Lionel rushed to a wardrobe and threw guns and ammo onto the floor. Tim was standing by the door, crouched and ready. He was tall and lanky, but with heavy muscle on his arms and legs. He was a lousy shot, but amazing at wrestling.

Alex checked the men were getting ready and then strode over to her desk. Her fingers felt under it and closed around a wooden handle. She yanked an object out and smiled. Her axe.  It was silver and gleaming, scrubbed of the virus. The gang had discovered long ago that bullets do nothing but slow the creatures down. To destroy them, you had to cut off the heart and brain at the same time. Only one way to do that – behead them. Alex was given the job. She had the best motor skills and, as a result, her axe never failed to hit the target, moving or not. Alex straightened up and went to stand with Tim at the front door.

A few minutes later and Lionel and Bruce joined the duo. They were armed with shotguns and each had a loaded handgun in their waistband.  Clunk. Tim glanced up at Alex, waiting patiently for the signal. Alex paused and then nodded.

Tim threw the door open and then rolled out of the way. Lionel and Bruce immediately took position, kneeling on the floor, their guns propped up on one knee. Alex stood behind them and held her axe above her head. Any second now...

“ARGHHHHHHUGGGU!” A creature flew in out of the darkness. It was disgusting, smelling of sick and disease. It looked like a woman, and it was wearing the ragged, dirty remains of a skirt and top. The skin on its bald head was peeling, pus dribbling down into its swollen eyes.
The creature hurled itself through the door and lunged for Bruce, its claw-like nails flailing and raking in thin air. Lionel’s finger squeezed the trigger and a bullet raced out, hitting the creature in the chest. It paused for a moment, its bloodshot eyes widening in pain and shock. Alex saw her chance and swung her axe. There was a squelch and the head dropped to the floor, followed by the body, dead and cold.

Tim jerked as the woman fell towards him. A single touch and he was as good as dead. It wasn’t the bite that killed you, like everyone thought. It was the blood, poisoned by the virus. Shaking, he glanced up and smiled weakly. There were no more. Just one solitary creature, prowling the dark in search of pray. Tim stood up and patted Alex on the shoulder. “That’s us,” he said, slapping his hands together. “Happy Halloween!” With a smile, he turned back round to face the door and then, with a gasp, he vanished into the darkness.

I hoped you liked it! XD Happy Halloween!

Marley and Noah :D

Hey! This is going to be a post full of photos because...We got the kittens on Friday! AHHHH! :D

When we picked up the kittens on Friday and brought them back to our house, they were surprisingly ok :) They didn't cry, which was good, but they didn't eat, which is bad :/  Thankfully, Marley (yes, I decided to call him Marley! Thank you to everyone who voted!) started eating the dry biscuits but Noah...well, we only found something he could eat yesterday! It's a tasty concoction of beef kitten pate and cat milk. Yum.

The two kittens play fight all the time, which is adorable and they often forget they have tails. This means that every time they see them they go mental! A kitten chasing its own tail is one of the cutest things you will ever see :P

Ok, on to pictures! Sorry most of them are of Marley, but Noah was sleeping!

Marley playing with the toy on the scratching post :D

Noah playing with some dust.. :/
Marley trying to sleep...he's all grumpy >:(

What's that over there?

Marley is addicted to the wee toy I got him :)

Noah sleeping :D

3, 2, 1...pounce!
Yeah, so there are some pics! Before I go, I just want to say that you will be getting a story next week - I promise!! Oh, and I went horse-riding yesterday :D It was great fun, but I was on a fat horse, so now all my leg muscles hurt :(

Kittens!!

Hiya!  I have some important news...I'm getting a kitten!!!
YEY! I'm so excited! On Wednesday, me and my sister, Becca, accidentally found out that we were getting kittens! We ended up going to choose our kittens that night and, I must say, I was overcome by adorableness :D That half-hour was spent mainly oooh-ing and ahh-ing at the kittens but eventually, we decided on two that we wanted.
Me and Becca are getting the kittens we choose on Wednesday next Friday, so we'll have plenty of time to prepare baskets, food etc. Our family has always had cats so we know what to do with them but we've never had a kitten in my lifetime! Anyways, here are some pics (they're both boys :D) -
Becca's kitten :)
Mine, looking cute :P

Mine again, rather grumpy  >:(

So, yeah those are our kittens! Sorry for the bad quality of my first photo - it was taken on Becca's iPod :)
Becca has decided to call hers Noah and I have decided to call mine...I have no idea! I really like the name Marley and Ozzie but what one do you think suits it best? I'll put a poll up!
I'll post on Friday/Saturday about their arrival!

P.S. I've just realised that the text has shrunk near the bottom :( I've tried to fix it but it won't work!! Sorry!

Lexie and "The Beast"

Hiya people! Sorry I haven't posted in a week - I was planning to do it yesterday, but I felt really sick :O
Anyway, I, unfortunately, don't have a new story for you *sighs* I've been super busy with Wolfbane, so I don't have much time to write short stories :/ Sorry everyone! I do, however, have a small piece of writing that was initially going to be in my book, but got taken out. Hopefully this will give you a feel for my writing style.

Short synopsis of what's happened so far - Lexie has escaped from the research facility (and a house that she collapsed in..but that's another story ;D) and she is on the run, trying to get out of Scotland to find her brothers. This is her first encounter with a car :O I hope you like it!!!

P.S. When I say she "changed" I mean that she turns into a wolf...just so that you're wondering why the hell she has paws or is growling or whatever :P

Lexie and "The Beast"

Lexie changed as soon as she lost sight of the house. While she was running from the farm, she had calculated that she needed to go south - towards the border and into England. She hoped it wasn’t far. Lexie stumbled down a hill and onto a flatter patch of grass. Her paws pounded on the soil, kicking up dirt and roots as she ran. She loved the feel of it. It was rough and coarse and crumbly – it was like nothing she had ever felt before. Lexie howled in glee and ran faster. She could smell pine needles and long grasses, a scent that wafted into her nostrils. Lexie kept running towards the hill, heading towards the smell. It smelled like comfort, of food and water. It smelled like heaven.

Lexie got halfway over the hill when a noise made her stop. It was low and rumbling, full of unspoken threat and danger. Lexie growled and looked around for the source, intent on fighting the beast that was disturbing her joy. There was nothing around. Lexie relaxed her guard and climbed up the hill, higher and higher, until she was standing on its peak. Lexie swivelled her head round. A forest! It was diagonally in front of her, only half a mile or so away. She could see the green tops of the firs; hear the hushed calling of deer in its belly, asking her to join them. Lexie jumped slightly in delight and broke into a run down the hill.

Suddenly, Lexie froze. It was the beast. She could hear its roar echoing through the peaceful air. Lexie stumbled backwards and froze, her claws unsheathed. She bristled and snarled, showing her pointed canines and red gums. It was coming closer – she could sense it. Lexie’s ears pricked up and she turned her head round. Lexie yapped and sprung forward. There it was. The beast. It rolled along at the bottom of the hill on an uneven grey river. It had no paws or tail, just round wheels that barely touched the ground. It was huge, larger than any beast Lexie had ever heard of, full of strength and power. It was silver with black lines on it, but there were large see-through bits on its front and sides. Lexie snarled again and took a step back. There was no point in making the first move. If it wanted to fight, it would have to come to her.

The beast sauntered past her and then, a moment later, stopped. Lexie stayed frozen to the ground she stood on. The beast opened up and a man stepped out of it, his mouth open with shock. He was wearing large green boots and an old, worn jacket. Lexie growled. The man just stood there, staring at her.  Slowly, he took a step forward. Lexie darted back, growling louder. He kept walking closer, his hand in his pocket. He pulled out a mobile (Lexie had seen them before – the guards were constantly bragging about them) from his pocket and pressed a button. It lit up and made a snappy noise. Lexie flinched at the light and snarled angrily.

The man jumped and ran back into the beast, his hand clasped tightly around the mobile in his pocket. Lexie saw her chance and sprinted forwards toward the grey river, snapping her jaws and growling wildly. The beast started and spluttered, a deadly cloud of gas coming out of its rear end. It froze for a second before roaring and running off, leaving long black lines on the river, a legacy to its presence.

Lexie stayed still for a minute, her claws buried in the soft soil and her body cloaked in the tall grass. Her eyes carefully surveyed the surroundings, waiting for the beast to jump on her, to kill her in ambush. Nothing happened and slowly, Lexie relaxed her muscles. She walked nervously to the bottom on the hill, to the edge of the grey river. Lexie hesitantly extended a paw and tested its surface. It was warm and solid. Lexie looked longingly up at the forest. It was green and fresh, an amazing destination on her journey to her brothers. She whined, and gathering her courage, sprinted across the river. It was bumpy and uneven, her paws sliding in and out of holes. She kept running, her breathing ragged with fear. Lexie finally skidded to a halt when she felt the stalks of grass grazing her legs and the dirt burrowing into the gaps in between her claws. Panting, she glanced up. The forest was directly ahead of her. Lexie immediately perked up and ran gleefully towards the trees.

NaNoWriMo :D

Hi! Sorry for not posting this week - I had a sleepover at the weekend! It was so much fun, but I think I gained 3 pounds after eating all those pancakes  ;)

Anyways, I have decided to try and finish my book before November! No, I'm not mad (well, I am, but not about this!), there is an actual writing challenge dedicated to writing a novel in 30 days :D It's called National Novel Writing Month or NaNoWriMo for short. To win, you basically have to write 50,000 words in 30 days - an immense task that will require an abundance of tea, Terry's Chocolate Oranges, and a lot of sympathy from my teachers after I don't complete my homework :P Unfortunately,  I've already started my novel (Wolfbane - more on that later :D) so I can't officially enter the competition, but still, I am going to try finish my novel before the end of November. I'm so nervous about it, so your sympathy and good luck would be appreciated!!

If you think you've got what it takes to write a novel in 30 days, or you just want to find out more, click this link - http://www.nanowrimo.org/
