Noughts and Crosses.....Book Review :D

Hi! I'm so excited!! On Friday I Facebooked the author of the book Juicy Writing the link to my blog! AHHH!! I'm a bit worried as well because it's been 2 days and she hasn't replied..... :/

Callum is a nought - a second-class citizen in a world run by the ruling Crosses...
Sephy is a Cross, the daughter of one of the most powerful men in the country...
In their world, noughts and Crosses simply don't mix. And as hostility turns to violence, can Callum and Sephy possibly find a way to be together? The are determined to try.
And then the bomb explodes...

Genre: Drama
Author: Malorie Blackman
Publisher: Corgi Publishers
Rating: 4/5

I read this book a while ago and, mostly out of boredom, I decided to read it again. I'm so glad I did! For a start, I think the concept is fantastic - a world ruled by the "Crosses" (dark-skinned) and tended to by the "Noughts" (pale-skinned). In this parallel world, history has been rewritten to have the pale-skinned Noughts serve as slaves to the Crosses, and despite the law being changed years before Sephy and Callums time, prejudice and discrimination still play a major part in their world.
The plot is extremely well written - a modern Romeo and Juliet but with lots more betrayal, bloodshed and racial tension. With more than enough twists and tension in the plot to keep the reader interested, this book is a goldmine for any self-respecting book enthusiast. The characters are well portrayed and the description is outstanding. The only criticism I have is that the time jumps can be a little off putting and confusing eg. Sephy changing from 14 to 17 in a couple of seconds. Other than that, there are no faults with this book and I would recomened it to anyone.
The main theme in this book is obviously discrimination and racial differences which is shown clearly throughout the novel. Just reading this book makes you think differently about the way you treat others and the harsh prejudice that goes on into today's world.
In conclusion, this is a must-have book that will blow you away with its action, romance and tension. Please buy it!! It's part of a 4-part series and they are all amazing!
